Imagine you are junior faculty at a public state university given the opportunity to teach two 8-week courses in the Fall: World War II in Literature and World War II in Film. What are the "must-haves" in your course? What literature (say, 5-6 memoirs and/or novels) would you want your students to read? What films would you want your students to watch and analyze? So far, Slaughterhouse-Five and All Quiet on the Western Front are included in my literature syllabus. I'm thinking WW2 in Color as a documentary before heading into films that show the Europe and Pacific theater. Both are graduate courses so, at minimum, students will read at least one novel/memoir a week. I'd love to know your thoughts and suggestions.
