We had started a general introduction on the outdoors fishing thread, but I see this group was created since then. So I'll start a new thread here for the fly guys!

Avid Fly Fisherman chasing everything Michigan has to offer, from bass to pike to trout.
I've been fishing since i was a kid, but almost exclusively fly fishing for the last 6 years.
Always happy to help people chase fish on the fly, dont hesitate to hit me up for help! I'm also starting a little blog going over everything someone would need to get started fly fishing on the blog at https://9lineflyfishing.com - Hope it helps!
I've been away from the site for a while. Happy to see a Fly Fishing Forum! I am Kurt, from Houston Texas. I am prior Navy. Got out after 6 years as an Aviation Electrician's Mate Second Class.
I spend my days dreaming about fly fishing for redfish on the flats after recently catching my first (*on fly)
I recently checked off a bucket list item. This past summer we roadtripped to Telluride, CO where I caught my first native trout (and a stocker too) on the fly.
Nice fish! i know Louisiana is a hot spot for bull reds. How was Colorado?
@Kelly Weber Sorry for the slow response!
Colorado was incredible. The highways that connected us from New Mexico to Telluride all follow small mountain rivers/streams. All I could think about was fishing.
I'll admit, I've only targeted freshwater trout once before this trip, and it was a failure, so my hopes for the trip was just one fish-to-hand. We stopped by Telluride Angler, got some flies and a tip for a spot I could wade.
(I didnt bring waders, just sandals. The water made my feet numb within minutes)
I had to find a spot in the bend that wasnt too close to others, as it was a popular area. I might have spied on a guide to get an idea of what to do.
A few drifts later I had that rainbow to hand, and another few drifts later I caught (what I believe to be) a cutbow.
Spent about 30min in the water. So I'd call that a success. Makes me want to spend more time chasing trout for sure.
@KurtActual thats awesome man! success after a DIY trip is always a good feeling. I took my fiance down to NC in November and one of the things we did was take a float trip and then wade a few spots on our own. we figured out the streamer bite was on fire, and each caught probably 40 or 50 each. rainbows and brookies. tons of fun. After the float we waded a few spots we had seen on the float and I caught a 15" brookie on the swing.
If youre looking for a pair of waders, the Simms G3 guide waders from last year should be on sale for 40-50% off right now so they can clear inventory for the updated ones
