About the Position

Patrol Base Abbate is 501(c)3 veterans service organization whose goal is to provide a meaningful community for all who have served. The organization is founded on three pillars allowing members to connect with one another in their local community and across the globe. We have no barriers to entry outside of honorable military service and are dedicated to serving all veterans and active duty servicemembers.

 

The Chief Operating Officer will be the senior member of Patrol Base Abbate’s Senior Leadership Team and will be the organization’s first full-time hire. The COO will be directly responsible to the Executive Director and will be overall responsible for all operational and administrative functions of PB Abbate. The COO will join a large team of volunteers committed to advancing the organization’s mission. The Executive Director and Board of Directors is committed to raising increased funds to surround the COO with additional staff to help support the COO in ensuring the success of the organization. He/she will be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of full-time employees that may be hired as the organization grows. The COO must be prepared to support Retreat Operations at the physical Patrol Base in Montana during retreat season (May-Sept). Travel will be limited outside of retreat season, but will occasionally be required for major programming events, fundraising events, or media engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

+Overall responsible for implementing the strategic initiatives of the Executive Director and Board of Directors and serving as the senior member of the organization’s Leadership Team.

+Develop, implement, and refine the internal structure of PB Abbate as required to enable the organization to effectively scale and achieve excellence as it continues to grow.

Operations

+Responsible for running day-to-day operations and performing long-term planning for PB Abbate across all staff sections including but not limited to Development, Finance, Programming, Marketing, IT, and Human Resources.

+Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure operational excellence across all staff sections.

+Ensure compliance of PB Abbate with all legal requirements pertaining to a non-profit corporation.

Development

+Oversee the PB Abbate Development team to ensure fundraising activities adequately support programming expenses.

+Proactively engage with current and potential donors in order to ensure continued growth of donations to support PBA programming.

Marketing

+Oversee the Marketing team to ensure the external brand of PB Abbate supports the organization’s mission.

+Develop ways to increase the PB Abbate audience of both potential members, supporters, and donors to ensure we have a strong community and access to the funds to support it. 

Programming

+Oversee the PB Abbate Programming team to ensure the organization provides a rich community for members across all three programming pillars.

+Ensure the Retreat Experience and Member Experience meet organizational goals through qualitative and quantitative assessments and develop/modify programs as required to continually improve the experience provided to members.

Finance

+Perform oversight of budget and expenditures to ensure financial resources are being used to best achieve PB Abbate’s mission and goals.

Information Technology

+Ensure information technology systems and information management processes support organizational requirements.

Human Resources

+Develop and adapt policies as required to effectively onboard, integrate and support new hires and volunteers across the organization.

Outreach

+Oversee outreach efforts to veterans and active-duty service members in order to increase membership of PB Abbate and provide a richer community for all members.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree Required (Master’s Degree desired – MBA strongly preferred)

- 10+ years relevant work experience leading teams, developing and implementing policies, and planning and executing operations (experience in management consulting, business, start-ups, or non-profit organizations desired).

- Proven track record of aligning teams and achieving success in supervisory role(s) similar that required of this role.

- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with a high level of emotional intelligence to effectively engage with both internal and external constituencies.

- Ability to juggle multiple priorities seamlessly across a large team is a must.

- A high level of integrity, humility, transparency, and inclusivity is required.

- Military experience is not required but is preferred due to the ability to relate closely with members of the organization

Ideal Candidate

We recognize that no single candidate will have all of the desired qualifications. We are looking for the right person to lead the organization as the COO, not the right resume. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a wide array of business/management skills and an inspiring individual that can build cohesive teams and align efforts of paid staff and volunteers. He/She must truly value the mission of the organization, possess the highest level of commitment to advancing the organization, and have the character and integrity to ensure Patrol Base Abbate is truly a community for all who have served.

Additional Information

Pay is competitive with COO positions across the non-profit space and will have healthcare benefits and a retirement option. You are required to submit a cover letter, resume, and three professional references as part of your application. Salary: $90-110k, commensurate with experience

Benefits: Healthcare and Retirement Option

Location: Remote, although there will be a need to travel to support retreats during retreat season and other operations as deemed necessary
