In Jacksonville (NC)
Hey PB Abbate North Carolina! My name is Emma Thompson, and I am your PBA NC chapter captain. I am stoked to meet you all in person, but in the meantime, drop your intro in this forum so we can get to know everybody. So a little about me…I grew up in Minneapolis, MN before going to Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. In 2016, I commissioned in the Marine Corps and became a Communication Strategy officer. I just finished the USMC’s graduate education program at San Diego State, and PCSed to II MEF on Camp Lejeune, NC. I spend my free time doing anything and everything outside – mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, camping, running, and surfing. I love the beach, and go there with my dog almost every day! I train Muay Thai, and dabble in boxing and bjj. I also am passionate about psychology, philosophy, reading, live music, and coffee. Being a part of Patrol Base Abbate means a lot to me, and I hope to share this passion with you all as we honor Sgt. Matthew Abbate and the many other warriors who went before us. I look forward to hearing from and meeting you! Welcome to our tribe!

In Mountain Biking
Hi mountain bikers! I just rode at Mt. Laguna in Descanso, CA this past weekend. The trail systems there are super rad and diverse, so it got me thinking about a recommendations thread! Feel free to post your favorite trails, no matter the location. So my recommendation for riding at Mt. Laguna is to start at the Sunset trailhead near mile marker 19 on Sunrise Highway, Descanso, CA. Then to take Kemp Sur trail to Chico Spur trail (beware of long endurance climb here). Then hit the connector spur to get to Gatos. Gatos Spur is your money trail! This long downhill just had work done, and the berms, jumps, and logs are stellar, making for a fast and exhilarating downhill (I could honestly loop Gatos all day). From Gatos, we took Big Laguna Trail over to Noble Canyon. There's a great loop at Noble, but beware of the even longer climb on the way back up. There's also options to continue down Noble Canyon, but recommend leaving a car at the bottom because the loop back up is unreal. If you get a chance to check out Descanso, these are just some of the many trails Mt. Laguna has to offer! And if you are not on it yet, I highly recommend using the "MTB Project" app. It is free and has tons of trail maps and updated trail conditions! Post your recommendations below and ride on!

In Mountain Biking
Hey! I'm Emma Thompson, the mountain biking club captain. I'm a 4502, Communication Strategy officer, currently in school to be a Comm Planner (4505). I'm by no means a pro at mtn biking, but I am super passionate about the sport and love being out on the trails. It would be rad to talk bikes, trails, etc. with avid mountain bikers, or even those slightly interested. So bring your advice, comments, questions, or other rad bike news here! I'm currently in San Diego, and there are endless trails here that I am always exploring. If you're in the area, let me know and we can set up a ride. If you don't have a bike, but want to learn more, still reach out and we can work it out. I am stoked to chat bike talk, learn more from you all, and hopefully hit the trails together! Bike on!
