Hey fellas, I'm Jake Johnson. I was in the Marines from 09-15 and was an 0352 in 1/2 for most of it. Went to Musa Qala in Mar2010 and had our fun, was called up on a 24 hour notice deployment in Mar2011 to go sit on a ship off the coast of Libya on the USS Ponce and then back on a MEU in Mar2012. I had reenlisted about midway through that deployment and let 1stSgt convince me that I needed to go Recruiter to stay competitive. I didn't know if I wanted to make it a career but with a wife and 3 kids at home, I wanted my options to be open. Ended up tearing a couple ligaments in my ankle somewhere near Djibouti about a month later. After we got home I lost my recruiter spot(whew) and ended up having to have 3 surgeries on it before getting medically discharged in 2015. I'm really trying not to let this turn into a novel, but basically after that 3rd pump, the group of guys we had were all at the end of our contracts and everyone either got out and went home, or went to their next duty station. I got stuck in medical purgatory and after back to back to back deployments, I was basically forced to finally unpack all of the things I had been ignoring. At the time I had no idea what or why I suddenly struggled. Only later realizing that I and the others had lost our tribe, especially those who got out and went back home. This club is exactly what I've been looking for. Mikey Hall and I were in the same squad for a couple of those deployments and he reached out to me and invited me to the upcoming retreat, for which I am extremely thankful for. I'm looking forward to not only that but getting more involved here! Oh yeah, I'm in the Book Club. I've always been a big reader growing up, but after I began to struggle I wanted to read anything and everything I could get my hands on that dealt in some way with coming home. Writing has been my way to try and catalogue all the chaos and feelings(unsuccessfully) but it's my therapy. Currently I'm living in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Married 13 years now with 3 kids. Finally got back in to school to finish my degree in Computer Science/Cyber Security. I enjoy anything outdoors, fishing, poker and computers. Glad to meet everyone!
